When you are offended at any man's fault, turn to yourself and study your own failings. Then you will forget your anger

Love never dies a natural death.
It dies because we don't know how
to replenish its source. It dies of
blindness and errors and betrayals.
It dies of illness and wounds; it dies
of weariness, of withering, of tarnishing.

I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully, tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails. I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp. I want to be there with grass stains on my shoes from mowing Sister Schenk's lawn. I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbor's children. I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden. I want to be there with children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of a friend on my shoulder. I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived
Rene Descartes
It is easy to hate and it is difficult to love. This is how the whole scheme of things works. All good things are difficult to achieve; and bad things are very easy to get

As one called as a witness of Jesus Christ & to declare His gospel, I plead that you will not delay in doing all that you can. That you will strive to come to know His laws & commandments & work with urgency to obey them. By this you will begin a process that will make you righteaous & thus worthy of the promised blessings

The great challenge of this eartly life is not to escape afflictions & problems but rather to carefully prepare ourselves to meet them
Virginia U Jensen
Like those “noble and great” women who came before us, we cannot be ordinary women. We cannot be women who seem too much like women of the world. We must speak up for righteousness without apology. We, like Mary, Eve, Sarah, and Emma, are unique. We have ripples to make and water to share. Given our eternal heritage, we must remember how powerfully our simple, righteous actions can ripple through the hearts and homes of those around us. We have such a great opportunity to do so much good, and, most important, we know where and how to “draw water out of the wells of salvation.”
Russell M Nelson
We should not be rushed. We cannot cut corners of preparation & risk breaking covenants we were not prepared to make. That would be worse than not making them at all.

Comes often to my memory
The darkness love has fixed in me
So that I cry, self pityingly
‘what other man has lived this through?’
For love attacks me suddenly
Life’s energies abandon me
One spirit only lives & moves within
Because it speaks of you
Then, I , to save myself, must force
My steps a pallid empty thing
I come to you to be made whole
But when I raise my eyes to yours
My heart is seized with shuddering
That from the blood stream drives my soul
The darkness love has fixed in me
So that I cry, self pityingly
‘what other man has lived this through?’
For love attacks me suddenly
Life’s energies abandon me
One spirit only lives & moves within
Because it speaks of you
Then, I , to save myself, must force
My steps a pallid empty thing

But when I raise my eyes to yours
My heart is seized with shuddering

My errors, my loves, my unlucky star
These 3 things have been my curse
My luck & my errors are bad enough
But love was the worst
I have survived; but the pain
Has bitten so deep in the bone
The rage & grief will not let go
Too hurt to want contemptment now
The blunders scattered through my life
Are like a broken rosary
I gave myself to fortune, but fortune broke me
Of love there is hardly a ghost left.
O who what angel of power can assuage
My terrible demon of revenge.

Sometimes I feel so desperate; so unworthy so desolate of things in the higher realm. The realm where I want to be. The realm where my Father wants me to be. But when, in the falling, I muster up a plea for help, I always find Him there & He whispers “you can do it!” And that gives me the strength to read just one verse, say just one prayer, give just one smile, think just one good thought, be just one good thing I want to be. And then, a miracle unfolds. One verse becomes chapters, one prayer becomes many, one smile becomes a whole sunny day, one good thought becomes volumes, one thing I want to be suddenly emerges – and when I see in the distance the “me” that is coming, I don’t have time to feel desperate,

If the Latter-day saints will walk up to their privileges, & exercise faith in the name of Jesus Christ, & live in the enjoyment of the fullness of the Holy Ghost constantly day by day, there is nothing on the face of the earth that they could ask for (if it is the will of the Lord) that would not be given to them

Proverbs
Chinese Proverb: Behind an able man, there are always able men
English proverb: everyone must row with the oars he has
It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness
When a mouse laughs at a cat, there’s a hole nearby
Big mouthfuls often choke
The frog tried to look as big as the elephant & burst
If you try to clean others you’ll waste away like soap in the process
If you want to please everybody, you’ll die before your time
When spider-webs unite they can tie up the lion
He who builds to every man’s advice will have a crooked house
I murmured because I had no shoes, until I saw a man who had no feet
Everyone is kneaded out of the same dough – but not baked in the same oven
Reputation through a thousand years may depend on the conduct of a single moment.
He who helps someone up the hill gets closer to the top himself
He who does not pray when the sun shines will not know how to pray when the clouds roll in
He who growls all day lives a dog’s life
He who tunes up in the morning stays in harmony all day
He who kneels to pray will not stumble
He who has no battles will have no victories

This morning, my son told me that he & his pal, Brian, are going to build a time machine, so they could zap themselves back to pre-history & cavort with the dinosaurs. Should they succeed, I’m going to ask them to drop me off in my own childhood. Nothing against the Jurassic period, but it hardly seems as exciting as a world where anything is possible. Sure, there are disadvantages to being a kid. There is homework, chores, siblings with not sense of territorial imperative. On the whole, though, kids are pretty lucky. They can find a penny on the sidewalk & feel rich. They can find a fossil shaped rock & feel like Indiana Jones. Kids never feel guilty for eating too much or exercising too little. They can run butt-naked through the sprinkler without giving millisecond’s thought as to what the neighbors might think of their chubby little thighs. When kids are sick, everything in the world comes to a stop except mom, the Campbell’s soup company, & TV. When they get mail it’s always from: a friend, Highlights magazine, a greeting card, or a box-top prize. Kids believe that death means falling down, getting up & resuming play. To kids, life is forever. In a sense, they’re right. When you live & play & cry & love, entirely for the moment, as kids do, there is no such thing as time….only time machines

I’d like the memory of me
To be a happy one
I’d like to leave an afterglow
Of smiles when the day is done
I’d like to leave an echo
Whispering softly down the ways
Of happy times & laughing times
& bright & sunny days
I’d like the tears of those who grieve
To dry before the sun
Of happy memories I leave behind
When the day is done
To be a happy one
I’d like to leave an afterglow

No man is an island
No man stands alone
Each man’s joy is joy to me
Each man’s grief is my own
We need one another
So I will defend
Each man as my brother
Each man as my friend
I saw the people gather
I heard the music start
The song that they were singing
Is ringing in my heart
No man is an island
No man stands alone
Each man’s joy is joy to me
Each man’s grief is my own

10 Rules of Happiness
1. Develop yourself by self discipline
2. Joy comes through creation – sorrow through destruction. Every living thing can grow; use the world wisely to realize soul growth
3. Do things that are hard to do
4. Entertain up-building thoughts. What you think about when you do not have to think shows who you really are.
5. Do your best this hour & you will do better the next
6. Be true to those who trust you
7. Pray for those things such as wisdom, courage, & a kind heart
8. Give heed to God’s message through inspiration. If self-indulgence, jealousy, avarice or worry have deadened your response, pray to the Lord to wipe out these impediments.
9. True friends enrich life. If you would have friends, be one.
10. Faith is the foundation of all things – including happiness.

Let us truly be temple attending & a temple loving people. We should hasten to the temple as frequently, yet as prudently, as our personal circumstances allow. We should go not only for our kindred dead but also for the personal blessing of temple worship, for the sanctity & safety that are within those hallowed & consecrated walls. As we attend the temple, we learn more richly & deeply the purpose of life & the significance of the atoning sacrifice of the atoning sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ. Let us make the temple, with the temple worship & temple covenants, & temple marriage our ultimate earthly goal & the supreme mortal experience

We may deceive one another in some circumstances, as counterfeit coin passes for that which is considered true & valuable among men. But God…knows our thoughts & comprehends our desires & feelings. He knows our acts & the motives that prompt us to perform them. ALL the secret thoughts & acts of the children of men are open & naked before Him & for them will He bring them to judgment.

I have sought learning. I have sought truth. What best have I learned? To love God from my youth. I have read philosophy, the greatest thoughts of men but God writes on my soul with the finest truest pen. Expand thou, my mind, & as a pure conduit channel truth to my soul, for my intelligence, self-existent, was never made nor can be stayed from its destined role. For I am a child to wisdom’s king & with my exaltation bring added glory to His name, another golden link on the eternal chain, another picture in the celestial frame. I have sought learning I have sought truth & this have I learned to love God from my youth.

A fanatic is someone who loses sight of the goal but has redoubled his efforts to get there
Much of the misery encouraged by Satan comes from losses. Satan experienced that kind of misery when he lost his 1st estate. Now he tries to inflict similar losses on those who have proceeded to mortality, the 2nd estate. Satan encourages a loss of virtue, a loss of integrity, a loss of reputation, a loss of ideals, a loss of wholesome associates, & even a loss of life
The most effective missionaries…always act out of love
It is His work, not ours & it must be done in His way & on His timing, not ours. Otherwise, our efforts may be fated to frustration & failure.
We must be sure we act out of love & not in any attempt to gain personal recognition or advantage
We should live so that what [Gordon B. Hinkley] called ‘the tremendous power of the example of a member of the church’ will influence those around us

I can not ever take it off - I will always be an Apostle. I can't take off a Saturday, etc. I do know what I'm supposed to do & there will never be a time when I will not be worthy. Same as being a member of the church or a disciple of Christ.

A smile is a light in the window of a face that signifies the heart is at home and waiting. Nothing on earth can smile but man. gems may flash a reflective light, but what is the flash of a diamond compared with the flash of a smile? A face that can not smile is like a bud that can not blossom. It withers away and dies on its stalk. Laughter is day - sobriety is night & the smile is the twilight that hovers gently between both & more bewitching than the other

I think a lot of people look at me and say I'm weird, but what I've noticed - and this used to worry me a lot when I was little - is that I don't know one normal person. I've never met one actually. We all have our special odd little things & we should be proud of that

Perhaps there is a plan that we have things in common with a tree. Their spouts get food & shelter, so they gradually begin to grow. The years are marked by height & rings. As each new storm some testing brings. Though drought can maim, yet through it all a strong young tree grows straight & tall & spreads it’s arms to heaven above. To feel the warmth of light & love
